Top Technology Skills for 2016

As we welcome in the new year, we look at what will be the most sought after technology skills over the next 12 months. Research has shown that the following technology skills will be in demand throughout 2016:Skills needed

Software Architecture: this is a key skill within any technology project and with 42% of hiring companies looking to hire individuals with this skill, is proving to be the number skills for this year. Strong software architects will have a deep understanding of object modelling languages such as UML and software engineering design and should be able to apply a structured architecture approach and methodology.

Programme / Application Development: development skills are always in high demand, and the demand in 2016 is expected to be no different from previous years. Companies will be hiring for technology development skills, such as; Java, J2EE, Microsoft.net, SOA, JavaScript and will look for individuals with experience of designing and optimising business processes as well as integrating them.

Project Management: initial projections show that in 2016, approximately 39% of hiring companies have said they will be looking for professionals with project management skills and experience. They will be looking for individuals fully conversant with Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and ideally hold a project management certification.Technology

Big Data: The need for big data skills has increased since last year, with 36% of companies looking to hire professionals with experience of big data technologies such as Hadoop and NoSQL.

Database Administration: individuals with this skill play a pivotal role in the ongoing success of the system and the training program. It is a skill that 25% of hiring companies will be looking for professionals with experience in.

Web Development: although not as popular as last year,  it is still estimated that 24% of companies looking to hire this year, will be looking for web developers, who have an understanding of web programming languages, such as JavaScript, PHP, HTML5, CSS and REST API.
