ROD joins in Give and Gain Day 2016

Resource On Demand employees join in the national day for celebrating the power of  volunteering

Give and Gain Day12 thousand business volunteers; 240 companies; giving over 73,540 hours volunteering, helping hundreds of thousands of people across UK communities

  • UK’s only national day of employee volunteering happening today
  • Employees make a difference and feel more connected to their communities in the process
  • Volunteering also helps  employees develop skills and understanding of their communities

On Tuesday 17th May 2016, all of Resource On Demand’s employees were out in the community volunteering their time to help community groups, by taking part in Give & Gain Day, the only global day of employee volunteering, organised by Business in the Community.

Give & Gain Day is a global celebration of the power and potential of  employee volunteering. It sees thousands of people across the globe spend a workingGive and Gain day volunteering for good causes in their local community. Since 2008, over 110,000 people in 38 countries around the world have taken part.  Over 240 companies are helping hundreds of community organisations in the UK this year. In total, the time donated by business volunteers across the UK on Give & Gain Day will be 73,540 hours – an invaluable investment for communities.

Business volunteers are helping day centres and community groups to support those with no or limited access to social support. Stephen Howard, Chief Executive of Business in the Community said “Business are being increasingly strategic about volunteering as a way to not only make a difference but also to build skills and gain insight about their communities. Doing so will not only help attract the next generation of talent, but it  will also create communities that are better places to live, work and do business.”

Eleanor White of Resource On Demand, said “Helping to build a nursery that would benefit the needs of disabled people was not only very tiring, but extremely rewarding.  The amount of work we accomplished in just one day was amazing, and it was all thanks to our fantastic team work and motivation.  It was a great opportunity be outdoors, getting some exercise and all the while making a difference within our community. The end result was fantastic, and  nowing that we have made a real difference to benefit others is enough to take away the aches and pains!”

Give and GainZinnia Community Enterprise are set to benefit from the time, expertise and skills of Resource On Demand’s volunteers taking part in the Give and Gain initiative. Zinnia Community Enterprise has been established to develop social enterprise projects, employment and learning opportunities for people who might otherwise find it difficult to access support and employment. They survive purely on volunteers and donations, and welcomed the support provided through the Give and Gain day.

Liz Kinnea of Zinnia Community Enterprise, said “We are so very grateful for all the hard work the Resource On Demand team managed to accomplish in just a single day. We will now be able to accomplish so much more this year. Clearing the ground and laying the myoplex means we will be able to put in more raised beds for our members with disabilities; Tidying and clearing the outside space has prepared the area for our new outdoor office and training hub. The team were so friendly, with such great enthusiasm and we welcome them back at any time”.
